BERUST MIJN LAND

BERUST, MIJN LAND

lig stil mijn land
wacht en berust
verdraag de snijdende wind
adem de uren voordat
de storm gaat razen
de vloed zal dreigen
adem de uren totdat
het donker van de nacht
je in haar armen sluit
wacht en berust
mijn land

translation:

RESIGN, MY COUNTRY
lay still my country
wait and resign
endure the biting wind
breathe the hours until
the storm starts raging
the flood will threaten
breathe the time until
the dark of the night
will close you in her arms
wait and resign
my beloved country

  1. Don’t know what you have written but the picture is so alluring. Maybe heaven is like that.

    • thank you so much for your comment – the poem was written yesterday, some hours before a severe storm and a spring flood expected to reach this flat land:

      RESIGN, MY COUNTRY
      lay still my country
      wait and resign
      endure the biting wind
      breathe the hours until
      the storm starts raging
      the flood will threaten
      breathe the time until
      the dark of the night
will close you in her arms
      wait and resign

      • Edjofrank, my gratitude to you for translating this. You must be blessed to write in both languages with equal flair. The poem is so touching to my heart.
